Falkland Islands
The point of the 1982 war was that the United Kingdom wanted to keep their Falkland Islands regardless of Argentina’s desires. Unfortunately, large areas of the islands now remain closed to habitation because of land mines. The Falklands do seem more British than Latin American. They drive on the left and they speak English. Ed thinks they have an English accent, but Gill, our English friend, says they sound closer to Australian. Jane and Ed visited the penguins and then walked around town. Ed bought a necktie with penguins. |

For our exploration of the penguin colony we were tendered to Sparrow Cove. |
|
We were loaded into 4-wheel-drive vehicles, mostly Land Rovers. |
|
We had a bumpy ride, first in the surf then across roadless tundra to the penguins. |

At the penguin colony these children are selling Diddle Dee Jam, a local favorite, and photo cards to the tourists. |
